Mission and Goals

Mission
The mission of the Office of the Chief Information Officer is to support the Academic Plan, Leadership Agenda and the PlanIT strategic information technology plan. The Office of the CIO will provide information technology leadership, a comprehensive application and services portfolio, and a sound technology infrastructure to the campus community in support of academic excellence and standing through technology innovation in teaching, learning, research and administrative support.

Goals
Technology Leadership
Provide reliable, collaborative, and visionary technology leadership that considers emerging technologies and reflects the needs of the diverse university community.

  • Provide leadership in technology planning and use for university faculty, researchers, and students to enhance the quality of the teaching and learning environment.
  • Establish standards, best practices, and policies in areas such as project management, technology security, and accessibility to support the use and maintenance of technology in an efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Enhance Outreach and communication efforts to better serve the diverse student body and enhance the quality of the teaching and learning environment.
Technology Services
Deliver responsive, efficient, and effective instructional and administrative technology services to university constituents.
  • Provide cutting-edge instructional and research technology support to university faculty, researchers, and students.
  • Implement and maintain mission-critical administrative systems to facilitate the smooth functioning of the university's automated administrative management systems such as human resources, financial management, and student enrollment and student services.
  • Provide a user-friendly environment to foster the daily use of information technology by faculty, staff, and students to facilitate teaching, research, and learning.
Technology Infrastructure
Enable and support a dependable, scalable, and cost effective technology infrastructure for the university enterprise.
  • Provide reliable, efficient, and effective telecommunications services to the university to facilitate the productive use of communication technologies by faculty, staff, and students.
  • Maintain, improve, and upgrade technology-enabled facilities to create a fostering environment for faculty teaching, student learning, and scientific research, such as technology classrooms, video facilities, student computer centers, and the enterprise server.
  • Provide effective Systems Operations support to colleges and administrative units with high system reliability and quick response time.
