Communication Plan for Information Technology

View or download PDF version

The Ohio State University's Communication Plan for Information Technology consists essentially of a matrix of notification priorities covering all possible routine and emergency events related to IT services, support, and planning on campus, and also lists responsible parties, affected groups (stakeholders), and preferred communication methods.

The matrix's intended use is as a reference tool for staff and/or faculty who, when functioning as responsible parties, need to ensure that any change in IT policies and procedures, or emergency in an area of the information technology environment, is communicated to the appropriate stakeholders in a timely and consistent manner. It is primarily an overview, however, and does not supersede existing business continuity plans within the university.

The IT communication plan matrix was compiled by a committee convened by the Office of the CIO in response to part 2 of the Governance and Communications initiative of Ohio State's Information Technology Strategic Plan. Part 2 calls for the development and maintenance of Ňa communication plan and strategy to improve two-way communications between central and distributed IT." Committee members represent the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Human Ecology, Nursing, and Math and Physical Sciences; the offices of the Chief Information Officer, Information Technology, Undergraduate Studies, and University Relations; OSU Marion campus; and University Libraries.

A subcommittee led by Eva Bradshaw of the College of Human Ecology is now developing an IT Resource Directory of campus IT support personnel and methods to improve communication methods.
