Funded Collaborative Efforts

1999-2000
Board of Regents Efficiency Challenge Grant: "Meeting Foreign Language Needs of the 21st Century: An Ohio Strategy" is a collaborative project between The Ohio State University, Ohio University and Cleveland State University. This innovative academic approach fosters inter-institutional cooperation to enable faculty at Ohio's public higher education institutions new opportunities to offer courses in their specialties for which there are too few students in their own institutions, and to coordinate offerings with colleagues at other universities and colleges. ($464,000)

2000-2002
United States Agency for International Development Tertiary Education Linkages Project (TELP) Grant with the University of North-West in Mmabatho, South Africa. The TELP grant provides education, technical training, curricular, distance education and financial resources to the University of North-West (UNW) and establishes a partnership between expert faculty at OSU and UNW to revise curricula, provide post-graduate education to future UNW faculty leaders, acquire and master cutting-edge technologies, enhance student access to high-quality education, and develop and implement a medium and long-term educational plan. ($460,000)

2001-2003
Ohio State, through the Office of the CIO and in partnership with ITEC-Ohio, has been selected as one of 30 national test and evaluation sites in an NSF-Advanced Internet Satellite Extension Project. The project's aim is to seek wireless Internet solutions to better serve rural and remote learning centers, businesses, and offices. The project also focuses on improving Internet delivery to colleges and universities that serve predominantly black, Hispanic, and/or Native American populations. ADEC selected Ohio State and ITEC-Ohio (Internet2 Technology Evaluation Center) because of our records as leaders in testing and evaluating emerging telecommunications technology. ($4.04 million)

2002
Ohio Board of Regents Technology Initiatives Program: Information Literacy and Scientific Literacy: Foundation for a K-12 Curriculum supports faculty content experts, experienced librarians, accomplished technical specialists, and knowledgeable system integrators address information and scientific literacies within a competency-based curriculum structured from introductory to advanced.  These curricula will be created in eight broad disciplinary contexts, yet be customizable to individual students based on their preferred learning style, learning goals, class level and cognitive readiness.  The grant funds the development of learning molecules that will "bind" primary materials, student activities, and assessments together to build a competency ladder.  ($343,000)

2002
Tri-State Aquaculture Outreach Using Technology, a project of the American Distance Education Consortium (ADEC)/USDA Agriculture Telecommunication Grant. Our tri-state Appalachian collaboratory (Kentucky State University, Ohio State University, and West Virginia University) was one of six grants funded in the 2002 peer review competition. The tri-state aquaculture outreach team will support and train secondary teachers in remote locations. The project will develop a semester-long aquaculture program using existing curriculum resources developed by the National Council on Agriculture Education. Each month different modules will be taught to participating teachers via video technology. The project will also develop a Website with resources for teachers and students. Constant virtual contact with aquaculture specialists through monthly videoconferencing and Website access will give teachers support needed to use the curriculum. Exposure to aquaculture in the classroom will enhance students’ knowledge of agriculture and the scientific method, and help identify career opportunities in the food and agriculture sector. ($50,000)
